What’s New for 2026: Yard Waste Program Fees
Beginning in 2026, fees will apply to Rocky View County’s seasonal yard waste program.
As approved through Rocky View County’s 2026 Master Rates Bylaw, fees now apply to yard waste drop-off services.
All County fees, including new fees, are reviewed annually and carefully considered as part of the budget process, and may be implemented or adjusted to reflect changes in service delivery costs, cost recovery requirements, or updated service levels.
2026 Fee Schedule:
| Type | Price |
|---|---|
| Grass/leaves: per bag or bundle | $2.00 |
| Grass/leaves: per half-ton load | $10.00 |
| Branches: per bag or bundle | $2.00 |
| Branches: per half-ton load | $10.00 |
Accepted Materials
The seasonal yard waste program is available at participating County Waste & Recycling Centres from May 1 to October 31 for the collection of accepted yard waste materials, including:
- Branches (less than 6 inches in diameter)
- Shrubs
- Leaves
- Grass clippings
- Brush
- Garden trimmings
- Hedge and tree trimmings
- House and garden plants
- Lawn edging (earth removed)
All materials must go into the bin loose or in a paper bag, meaning no plastic or paper bags can be used. Please empty the contents from all plastic bags into the bin and throw the bag into the plastic film bin. Plastic bags, twine, concrete and other non-organic materials contaminate the yard waste program.
How Branch Volumes Are Measured
Branches do not need to be tied, bundled, or bagged for drop-off.
Where fees are based on a “bundle” measurement, this is used only as a volume guide. A bundle is approximately equal to the size of a standard kraft paper yard waste bag.
Residents may bring branches loose in trailers, truck beds, or containers, provided materials meet program requirements.
Unacceptable Materials
Yard waste items that cannot be collected include:
- Branches larger than 6 inches in diameter
- Dimensional lumber
- Sod
- Soil
- Stumps
- Stones
- Concrete
- Any items in plastic or paper bags, cardboard boxes, or secured with twine
Visiting a Disposal Site
Once you reach a site an attendant will:
- Check to ensure the types of materials you are dropping off are accepted.
- Direct you to the location(s) to drop off material.
- County site attendants are there to help residents safely access services and ensure materials are directed appropriately.
- Questions or concerns about program fees or County service decisions can be directed to Rocky View County directly. Site staff and contracted operators do not make decisions regarding County-approved rates.

When at the bin or location to drop off material:
- Sites that have one-way traffic; follow the flow.
- Sites that have two lanes, please park near the appropriate bin to let other vehicles pass
- Adhere to the instructions on the signs; they are posted for your safety.
- Take the time to place the material in the correct bin or area so it can be processed properly.
- If in doubt, leave it out and locate an attendant in a safety vest for advice on where the materials should be placed.
To get in and out of the transfer site quickly and safely remember:
- Be considerate and patient when dropping off your materials.
- Over 400 vehicles can pass the gates at some of the sites. Watch for traffic as you move from one area to the next. Consider coming early, or during the week when it is less busy.
- Bring age-appropriate people to help unload your materials.
- Staff are not available to assist with the unloading of any items.
- Materials left at sites before or after the scheduled times are considered illegal dumping and will be dealt with accordingly.
Free Branch Collection Events
Residents in west Rocky View County may also be able to take advantage of periodic free branch collection events that support FireSmart and wildfire preparedness efforts.
These events are designed for larger branch loads and allow residents to dispose of tree debris more efficiently during designated collection periods. Learn more at here.
