Rocky View County advises that STANDATA 23-BCI-015R1 (Design of Wood Trusses for Roof Assemblies in Part 9 Buildings) will apply to all Part 9 buildings effective March 1, 2026.
Building Permit Application Requirements
- All Part 9 buildings must include authenticated (P. Eng.–stamped) wood truss designs for roof assemblies
- This requirement includes one- and two-family dwellings
- STANDATA 23-BCB-002R1 — Roof Trusses for One- and Two-Family Dwellings will be archived as of February 28, 2026
Authentication Requirements
All wood roof truss assemblies must be authenticated and address the following:
- Truss profiles
- Member sizes
- Layouts
- Joint and plate connections
- Bracing requirements
- Truss connections
All truss profiles and layouts require authentication (P. Eng. stamps) unless the complete required design information is provided and authenticated through other documentation.
Background
Alberta Municipal Affairs has provided industry guidance over the past year to support this transition. The implementation timeline has allowed manufacturers, suppliers, and builders time to prepare for the updated authentication requirements for roof trusses.
