The County provides water meter service in:

  • Bragg Creek/Elkana/Wintergreen
  • Cambridge Estates/Prince of Peace/Conrich
  • Cochrane Lake
  • Lynx Ridge (customers inside Calgary city limits)
  • Watermark

What is an actual vs estimated water meter reading?

Estimated water meter reading: If you are a metered customer your water meter measures the volume of water used. We will calculate your Water Charge and Wastewater Charge based on the measured volume of water used. When you receive your bill, it shows what the meter reading was and whether it was an actual reading or an estimated meter reading.

Actual will show when we have a meter reading to use for billing. If we cannot get a meter reading, we make an estimate based on past usage. When this happens, we call it an estimated meter reading. The next time we get a meter reading, we will update your account with the actual meter reading, on your next bill you may notice a minor adjustment to the charges to correct any difference.

Steps for builders

  1. 1
    Water Meter Purchase

A water meter shall be purchased at the time of Building Permit Application. Complete and submit a Water Meter Application Form to watermeter@rockyview.ca when construction has begun. Note: Curb stop boxes shall be protected from damage during construction. The curb stop box shall be exposed at final grade level and clearly marked with a blue wooden stake.

  2. 2
    Heat On/Lock Up

Once your building has reached Heat On/Lock Up stage, contact watermeter@rockyview.ca and state the address that is ready for a water meter. A Technologist will contact you with confirmation and provide further guidance if needed. Heat On/Lock Up: The point in construction when the building is heated and secured with walls, doors, and windows.

  3. 3
    Curb Stops

Ensure the curb stop is accessible and has not been damaged during construction. Curb stops can be operated by a certified plumber only for pressure testing the service and must be immediately turned off unless other arrangements have been made. Water lines MUST be flushed in advance of a meter install. Meter installers will turn the curb stop on once a meter has been installed.
