Some residents may notice that their 2026 property tax increase is higher or lower than the County’s 4.14 per cent municipal tax revenue increase. This is because property taxes are influenced by more than one factor.
Your 2026 property tax bill is based on three main factors:
- Your property’s assessed value
- The County tax rate, which increased by 4.14 per cent this year
- Provincial education taxes, which increased by 17 per cent, and seniors housing requisitions, which remained at 1 per cent
- Because property assessments are updated each year based on market conditions, the amount you pay can change depending on your property’s assessed value and how that value has changed.
Property assessments are determined annually based on market conditions as of July 1 of the previous year, while tax rates are set by Council through the annual budget process.
