Council adopted an updated Election Bylaw [PDF/258KB] on October 8, 2024. The updates result in a number of changes to the County’s election processes, as well as aligns the Election Bylaw with recent changes to the Local Authorities Election Act made by the provincial government.

Both the Local Authorities Election Act and Rocky View County’s Election Bylaw [PDF/258KB] require the County to appoint a Returning Officer and a Substitute Returning Officer to conduct municipal elections. The responsibilities include: providing official election notices and communications, hiring and training election workers, booking voting stations, and coordinating election day logistics.

The County’s Returning Officer is appointed by the Chief Administrative Officer and must be independent and impartial in their coordination of municipal elections as required by the Local Authorities Election Act and Rocky View County’s Election Bylaw [PDF/258KB].

For the 2025 municipal election, Rocky View County’s Returning Officer and Substitute Returning Officer [PDF/2MB] are as follows:

Returning Officer

Tyler Andreasen, Lead Legislative Officer, Legislative Services

Substitute Returning Officer

Jesse Sopko, Executive Director, Corporate Services
