Rocky View County Golf Carts Survey

Rocky View County wants to hear from residents about the potential use of golf carts on selected roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h and under.

In May 2024, the Province of Alberta launched a five-year pilot program, effective through the Pilot Project (Golf Carts) Regulation, allowing municipalities to authorize the limited use of golf carts on public roads with speed limits of 50 km/h or less. The project aims to improve mobility and evaluate safety, requiring approved municipal bylaws, safety equipment, and a registration system for operators.

On September 17, 2025, the County’s Governance Committee directed Administration to prepare an engagement and feasibility report to assess the merits of potentially taking part in the provincial pilot project.

“Administration has been researching other municipal golf cart bylaws that have been implemented, best practices, and the road safety implications of allowing golf carts on designated public roads within communities in the County,” said Lorraine Wesley, Manager of Enforcement Services. “Taking the time to gather and evaluate community input will help ensure that any future program is tailored to local needs, sustainable, and supported by the community."

The County also wants to gauge interest from residents and identify which communities might wish to be included should Council decide to move forward with piloting the golf cart program.

An online survey has been launched and will gather feedback until April 30.

At this stage, no specific routes, rules, or dates have been identified. Feedback gathered through the survey, along with research and best practices information, will inform a presentation to Council to guide any future decisions on golf cart use.
