Rocky View County Exploring Business Licensing and Seeks Business Input

Rocky View County is exploring whether a business licensing program may be appropriate and is seeking input from local businesses and Chambers of Commerce.

The County is gathering feedback to better understand how a business licensing program could support County services and economic development efforts. For example, business licensing could help the County better understand who is doing business in Rocky View County and what those businesses need, allowing communication, programs, and economic development initiatives to be better targeted and more useful.

It is important to note that Council has not made a final decision on whether to implement business licensing, and any future bylaw would require a separate Council decision after this work is complete.

The current engagement is focused on hearing directly from businesses about key considerations that would shape any future options. Topics include potential fees, possible exemptions, how to address businesses based outside the County, approaches to compliance, and renewal timelines.

“We want to hear directly from businesses and Chambers of Commerce to ensure their perspectives are part of the conversation,” said Dominic Kazmierczak, Executive Director, Community Services. “Their feedback will help inform any future options brought forward to Council.”

The online survey is available at engage.rockyview.ca/business-licensing. Feedback will be accepted until July 31, 2026.
