Rocky View County and the City of Chestermere have activated a new automatic aid arrangement that improves fire response for the Hamlet of Conrich. The agreement is effective immediately and will remain in place until April 2026.
Under this arrangement, Chestermere Fire Services will now be dispatched automatically, in addition to County resources, to structure fire incidents in Conrich. This is a change from the previous approach, where the County would request Chestermere’s assistance when needed. Automatic dispatch shortens the time it takes for support to arrive and strengthens the overall response for Conrich residents.
“Residents in Conrich asked for stronger fire protection, and this agreement delivers an immediate improvement,” said Rocky View County Reeve Sunny Samra.” Automatic dispatch brings help sooner and ensures the community has additional support during the most critical minutes of a fire.”
“As part of Council's strategic plan, the City of Chestermere continues to work towards being a leader in municipal politics,” said Chestermere Mayor Shannon Dean. “We are proud to continue this work as a strong regional partner, ensuring the safety of residents in Chestermere and surrounding Rocky View County.”
Rocky View County and the City of Chestermere have a long-standing mutual aid relationship. This new Memorandum of Understanding builds on that partnership and supports coordinated protective services for residents in Conrich.
“We have worked closely with the City of Chestermere for many years under mutual aid. This new arrangement builds on that relationship and enhances our joint ability to protect the Hamlet of Conrich,” said Rocky View County Fire Chief Ken Hubbard.
“Chestermere Fire Services is looking forward to be able to further support Rocky View County with the automatic aid agreement that enhances community safety by working together,” said Chestermere Fire Chief Cody Zebedee.
Throughout the five-month period, both municipalities will monitor response times, assess operational impacts, and evaluate how automatic aid performs under real conditions. This information will help guide future amendments to the Fire Services Agreement and inform ongoing work on long-term fire service needs in the Conrich area.
Rocky View County appreciates the cooperation of the City of Chestermere and the dedication of its fire service teams. The County also acknowledges the advocacy of Conrich residents who have called for stronger fire protection.
