An electoral division or district is a geographic area that a county uses to divide areas for election purposes, based on the number of people who live there. Since 2000, Rocky View County has had nine Electoral Divisions.
However, following a comprehensive review of the current County Electoral Divisions, Council passed a new bylaw in October 2020, that reduces the number of councillors from nine to seven, and redraws electoral divisions to better balance the number of people in each and to ensure everyone’s voice is equal.
As of the October 2021 Municipal Election, you’ll see new division boundaries and the new Electoral Boundaries and Council Composition Bylaw will take effect. Residents will be voting under the new format of seven divisions.
