The Project
At the July 7 Meeting, Council approved the Terms of Reference for the Conrich Neighborhood Plan, which will provide project direction on the planning of the neighborhood areas identified in the Conrich Area Structure Plan (ASP), namely Northwest Neighborhood and Southeast Neighborhood.
The purpose of the Conrich Neighborhood Plan project is to comprehensively design the two neighbourhood areas, with a cohesive road and servicing network for the hamlet of Conrich, in alignment with the Conrich ASP. The plan area includes all the lands within the Hamlet boundary as per:

The objective is to establish a planning framework that respects the values of the community, accounts for current conditions, and aligns with important larger scale plans. This project will consider the need for all types of land uses, including commercial, institutional, and residential uses, to plan the Neighborhood Areas. As part of this project, the project will aim to develop integrated parks, open space and trail system, and interconnected street network within the hamlet neighborhood areas.
The Conrich Neighborhood Plan project will involve stakeholder and community engagement, commission technical review and studies, and planning the comprehensive design of the neighborhood areas. The project will ensure that the proposed ASP complies with the direction of higher-level plans.
Background
The Conrich Area Structure Plan (ASP) is located in the southeast quadrant of the County, neighbouring the city of Chestermere along the south and city of Calgary on the west and south. The existing ASP was adopted in December 2015 (effective 2017 following Municipal Government Board decision); the area is approximately 4,411 hectares (10,900 acres) in size containing a mix of residential, industrial, and agricultural uses. The ASP provides a comprehensive planning and technical framework for an area identified in the Municipal Development Plan (County Plan) as a Full-Service Hamlet and Regional Business Centre.
In the past year, there have been landowners within the Hamlet who have expressed an interest and desire to proceed with the development of their lands. The focus of this project is then to provide an opportunity for those landowners to collaborate with the County on developing the Northwest Neighborhood and Southeast Neighborhood areas.
Although the County is still undergoing the Greater Conrich Area Review, the Neighborhood Planning will run concurrently with this project. While the Greater Conrich Area Review focuses on the comprehensive planning on lands outside the hamlet boundary, the Conrich Neighborhood Plan project will primarily provide further detailed planning within the Northwest Neighborhood and Southeast Neighborhood areas.
