This is a 70.3 Ironman triathlon race, but only the bike portion is in the County. Controls are in place to ensure rider and driver safety. Riders must ride single-file on the road shoulder. Cyclists cannot ride in packs. Riders have 10 seconds to pass another athlete.
Police, flaggers and marshals will be stationed at critical positions to ensure safety for all.
After swimming in Ghost Lake, cyclists will be riding on Grand Valley Road, TWP 272, Hwy 22, Wheedon Trail and Horse Creek Road between 7:20 AM and 12:15 PM. More details available on the route map on the Ironman website here: https://www.ironman.com/races/im703-calgary/course#bike
Traffic control in the County will be performed by police, and will be found at:
- HWY 1A & Grand Valley Road
- TR 280 & Horse Creek Road
- TR 280 & HWY 22
- HWY 22 & Weedon Trail
