Beginning September 18, 2026, paving activities will be undertaken in multiple sections throughout the project limits (see map below) and continue over the Fall of 2026. As this work is weather dependent, completion times for each section of work are anticipated to fluctuate.
What to Expect
Increased Travel Times
Increased travel times and temporary delays are anticipated during this time due to the volume of work being completed. Members of the public are advised to plan ahead and give themselves extra time when travelling through the area. The decision to schedule these activities together has been made in an effort to complete as much work as possible and reduce the overall duration of impacts for adjacent communities and those travelling through the area.
Frequent Changes to Traffic Configurations, Speed Limit Reductions, and Onsite Personnel Traffic configurations will change frequently as work areas are closed to traffic to allow for paving, and traffic is detoured to allow continued access while work is ongoing. Speed limit reductions will be in place throughout the work zone, and signage and personnel will be onsite to assist motorists in travelling safely through the area. Your patience and adherence to reduced speed limits, posted signage, and the direction of onsite personnel is greatly appreciated as it helps ensure the safety of workers and the travelling public.
Lane Closures and Single Lane Alternating Traffic
Lane closures, including closures which require single lanes of alternating traffic directed by flaggers, will be implemented as required over the course of this work to provide adequate space for paving activities. All traffic movements will be maintained during the course of this work. While reduced capacity is anticipated to cause delays, access to the area will remain open and all traffic movements will be maintained.
Four-Way Flashing Traffic Signals at Lott Creek Boulevard
As required, traffic signals at this intersection of Lott Creek Boulevard and Highway 8 will be temporarily set to flash red and will act as a four-way stop. Onsite personnel will be present to assist in directing traffic and supporting drivers in navigating the intersection when this is required. All movements at the intersection will be maintained and remain open during this work.
Overnight Work
When possible, crews will be working 7 days a week and work will occur during daylight hours. However, some overnight work will be required to reduce overall impacts to traffic. Overnight work will be implemented to help reduce the overall duration of work and assist in reducing congestion when feasible to do so.
Temporary Pavement Markings
Areas within the work zone will be in a temporary condition as work is completed, with temporary pavement markings in place prior to the painting of permanent lines. Please use caution when travelling through work zone.
Parking
Parking is not permitted along the highway or within construction limits. This area remains an active construction site with heavy machinery and workers present; drivers are reminded to obey posted signage and drive with care. Designated Elbow River access points can be found using the City of Calgary’s River Access Map.
