Spruce Avenue Utility Service Connection Construction

Location: Spruce Avenue in Bragg Creek (view map)

Timeframe: November 24-27, 2021

Description: Work includes installation of water and sanitary sewer service connections. Spruce Avenue will be closed between River Drive and Burnside Drive. Access will be maintained for local traffic only. Please respect all posted signage and watch for workers. Inquiries can be directed to Shawne Excavating at 403-603-3012 (Wes Shaw).


Utility Installation under Highway 772 (Symons Valley Road)

Location: Highway 772 (Symons Valley Road) between Township Road 261A and Mountain View Road (view map)

Timeframe: November 22 to December 6, 2021

Description: Volker Stevin Contracting will be installing a storm water trunk line under Highway 772 (Symons Valley Road). The work is being completed on behalf of the Developer and the project limits are within the City of Calgary. A detour route will be in place during the closure. Motorist can expect minor delays. Water Main Repair Work

Location: High Plains Road East of Range Road 291 (view map)

Timeframe: November 12-26, 2021

Description: Repair work will require full road closures. Please respect all posted detour signage and watch for workers.


Road Work on Range Road 285

Location: On Range Road 285 north of Highway 560 (view map)

Timeframe: November 4, 2021 to January 15, 2022

Description: The work consists of ditch and road work to build a temporary road approach. Concentrated hauling to be expected from November to Mid-January. Please obey all signs, watch for workers, watch for turning trucks, and watch for changing traffic accommodation measures. Inquiries can be directed to Brendan Burchill at 403-369-0674.


Site Access to McKinnon Flats Closed

Location: Access Road to McKinnon Flats recreational area at south end of Range Road 274 south of Hwy 22X (view map)

Timeframe: November 1, 2021 to April 15, 2022

Description: Access road to McKinnon Flats recreational area at south end of Range Road 274 is closed to all users for the winter season. Access road is not maintained during winter months. Highway 560 Bridge Replacement

Location: On Highway 560 between Highway 791 and Range Road 275 (view map)

Timeframe: Phase 1: October 22 to November 30, 2021
Phase 2: March 1 to July 31, 2022

Description: Alberta Transportation will be replacing the bridge over the WID Canal along Highway 560 in two phases. Phase 1 will involve the construction of a temporary detour bridge adjacent to the existing bridge that will serve as an onsite detour for commuters during Phase 2. Phase 2 will involve the removal and replacement of the existing bridge during which time commuters will be using the onsite temporary detour bridge. The temporary detour bridge will have two 3.7m wide lanes with a speed reduction to 50km/hr. Traffic accommodation measures will be in place 24 hours per day. Motorist can expect minor delays. West Ring Road - 101 Street to Highway 8 Closure

Location: Between Lower Springbank Road and Highway 8 (view map)

Timeframe: September 17, 2021 until Highway 8 interchange is complete

Description: As construction on the West Calgary Ring Road continues, access at Highway 8 and 101 Street will close permanently in mid-September. The permanent closure is required due to ongoing concerns about unsafe U-turns on Highway 8. The intersection was scheduled to be closed this fall to allow for construction of the interchange in the Highway 8 and Stoney Trail area. Alberta Transportation will be implementing the full closure of the Highway 8 and 101 Street intersection on Friday, September 17th. As of this date, this intersection will close permanently. On-site signage and marked detours are deployed onsite to provide advanced warning and help drivers navigate through this area. Until construction of the West Calgary Ring Road is completed, alternate north-south routes include 69th Street, Sarcee Trail and Highway 22 (Cowboy Trail). Old Banff Coach Road, Township Road 242 (17th Avenue) and the Trans-Canada Highway (16th Avenue) are available east-west connections into the city. Drivers will need to adjust their commutes accordingly, allow additional time to navigate through construction zones, and reference City of Calgary Traffic Map and 511 Alberta before traveling.

Highway 560 & Range Road 285 Intersection Upgrades

Location: Intersection of Range Road 285 and Highway 560 (view map)

Timeframe: July through November 2021

Description: Widening the intersection of Highway 560 and Range Road 285 in all 4 directions. Which includes topsoil stripping, grading, subgrade prep, granular base, moving & installing new traffic signals, asphalt paving & line painting. The scope of work for this project includes, but is not limited to, the following: traffic accommodation, grading, including grade widening, subgrade preparation, granular base course, asphalt concrete pavement, concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and median islands, pavement marking. Prince of Peace Waterworks Extension Project

Location: Hamlet of Conrich, Range Road 285 (Garden Road), Range Road 284 (Conrich Road), Meadowridge Drive, Township Road 245a (view map)

Timeframe: July to November 2021

Description: The Prince of Peace Waterworks Extension project will see new County watermains installed in the Hamlet of Conrich from the existing reservoir and pump station on Township Road 245a, through the community of Conrich, south under Highway 1 to the Prince of Peace community. Connections to the watermains will be made at accesses to the Cambridge Estates and Prince of Peace communities. Roving lane and road closures, including short duration detours, will be in place during portions of construction. Please follow all signage and safety personnel onsite as needed. This work is being done by Blackie Site Works Ltd. on behalf of the County. Township Road 242 Closure (West Ring Road)

Location: Between Lower Springbank Road & 101 Street SW (view map)

Timeframe: July 15 to Fall 2021

Description: As part of the west ring road construction, Calgary Safelink Partners will be closing Township Road 242 between Lower Springbank Road and 101st Street in order to complete the 17th Avenue interchange construction. Please see attached location map for more details. The closure will remain in place from July 15, 2021 until fall 2021. West Calgary Ring Road

Location: Southwest Calgary bordering Rocky View County

Timeframe: May 25 to early December 2021

Description: Work includes the realignment and construction of a round-about at Lower Springbank Road and Township Road 242 as part of the West Ring Road Project. The work will require a full closure and a detour route will be in place for the duration of the closure. Motorists can expect minor delays. Please respect all posted signage, flaggers, and watch for workers in the area.

Residents of Rocky View County (including cyclists) who commute into the city via Lower Springbank Road will now need to travel via 17th Avenue SW. Construction signage will be in place including lower posted speed limits through the work zone.

QEII Highway Interchange (City of Airdrie)

Location: 40 Avenue and QEII Highway

Timeframe: Spring 2021 to Fall 2023

Description: The 40th Ave Interchange is a key component to the ultimate transportation network. The additional network capacity will reduce traffic congestion along existing arterial corridors, including access to QEII. West Calgary Ring Road Construction Project

Location: Bordering Calgary between Highway 8 and Highway 1 (view map)

Timeframe: Spring 2019 – Fall 2022

Description: Work on roads with Rocky View County is not expected to begin until 2020, however the impact on Provincial Highways and City of Calgary roads bordering Rocky View County may affect residents of Rocky View County. Southwest Calgary Ring Road Construction Project

Location: Southwest Calgary bordering Rocky View County (view map)

Timeframe: Early 2017 to Fall 2021

Description: No work on Rocky View County roads is expected at this time, however the impact on area Provincial Highways and City of Calgary roads bordering Rocky View County may impact residents of Rocky View County.
