Rocky View County and Cochrane advance recreation service review with YMCA Calgary

Rocky View County and the Town of Cochrane are moving forward in their joint effort to enhance recreation service delivery for residents. After issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) earlier this year, the municipalities have selected YMCA Calgary as the preferred proponent to explore future operational models for the Spray Lakes Sawmills Centre (SLSC) and Cochrane Arena.

As joint owners of the SLSC and Cochrane Arena, the County and the Town jointly issued the RFP to explore operating models for recreation facilities. As recreation needs continue to evolve and grow, the RFP aims to assess and identify the best operational practices to ensure sustainability and accessibility for years to come.

The RFP, which closed on July 9, 2024, received three proposals, each carefully reviewed by a joint committee of representatives from both municipalities. Following an extensive evaluation, two proponents advanced to the second phase, with YMCA Calgary emerging as the preferred candidate.

The joint committee has now entered the final review stage with YMCA Calgary. This phase allows for deeper assessment of their proposed service delivery model, ensuring it aligns with community needs.

The outcome of the review will be presented to Rocky View Council, Cochrane Council, and the YMCA Board of Directors for consideration in mid-to-late Spring. The respective communities will be kept informed throughout this process.

As previously shared, there is a firm commitment that the ongoing RFP review will not impact current recreation services. Residents can continue to enjoy all existing programs and facilities without disruption.
