Rocky View County is updating the notice required for Building Inspection bookings to support more reliable and predictable inspection services as development activity continues to grow across the County.
Effective October 5, 2026, Building Inspection requests must be submitted at least one full business day in advance. For example, an inspection required on a Thursday must be requested by Tuesday. This replaces the current requirement to submit inspection requests by 2 p.m. on the previous business day. Requested inspection dates remain subject to availability and may be adjusted based on inspection volumes. For general inspection requests submitted without a specific date, the County will schedule the inspection for the next available date in accordance with the County’s 3–5 business day Quality Management Plan (QMP) requirement. The one full business day notice requirement applies to these requests as well.
Plan ahead for critical inspection milestones
Applicants are responsible for booking inspections early enough to support their construction schedules. This is particularly important when an inspection is required before work can be covered, enclosed, backfilled or before occupancy is requested.
Examples include:
- Foundation inspections before backfill;
- Framing inspections before insulation is installed;
- Private sewage and sewer service connection inspections before backfill is complete;
- Rough-in subtrade inspections before walls or ceilings are enclosed; and
- Final inspections before occupancy.
The additional notice will help the County better understand upcoming inspection demand, coordinate inspectors and scheduling staff, plan inspection routes, identify potential scheduling issues earlier and reduce the duplication of work.
By providing additional notice, builders and applicants can help the County better coordinate available resources and provide more reliable scheduling information. The County appreciates the building industry’s cooperation and partnership as it works to maintain responsive inspection services and support continued growth across Rocky View County.
