Rocky View County participates in Alberta Utilities Commission review of proposed Beacon AI Hub power plant

On February 10, 2026, Rocky View County Council directed Administration to participate in the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) review of the proposed Beacon AI Hub on-site natural gas-fired power plant.

The AUC is the independent provincial regulator that will decide whether the proposed power plant is approved and what conditions may apply. Rocky View County is not the decision-maker for this application. The proposed power plant would be located in southeast Rocky View County, between Glenmore Trail and Highway 22X.

The County has heard from residents on key issues including noise, emissions, water availability and servicing, and the protection of agricultural land. At Council’s direction, the County is participating in the AUC review process to help ensure resident concerns shared with the County are formally on the record for AUC consideration.

The County will continue monitoring the AUC process and will participate in accordance with Council direction. If the AUC approves the project, the County will carry out its municipal responsibilities under the Municipal Government Act and applicable County bylaws and policies, focusing on local matters within municipal authority and aligning with any AUC conditions.
