Update #2 - Final - 11:00 p.m.
Fire crews continue to monitor and address hot spots along the rail corridor near Indus following multiple grass fires reported earlier this evening.
The fire has been contained within the rail corridor, and crews have successfully prevented further spread. One small outbuilding was lost; however, no injuries have been reported.
Rocky View County Fire Services extends its appreciation to all mutual aid partners, including Calgary, Chestermere, Wheatland County, CPKC Rail crews, and all responding agencies for their rapid assistance and coordinated response to this fast-moving incident.
Highway 22X has reopened to traffic.
Rocky View County crews will remain on scene this evening, monitoring the rail corridor perimeter and addressing any remaining hot spots. CPKC crews will also continue a fire watch overnight.
This is expected to be the final public update for the evening. Thank you to residents and motorists for your cooperation and patience throughout today's response.
Update #1 - 7:45
Emergency crews from Rocky View County, Calgary, Chestermere, Wheatland County, and other mutual aid partners are actively responding to a series of grass fires reported along the CPKC rail line between Range Roads 274 and 281, Twp Roads 224 and 225. A vehicle fire and as well as a separate motor vehicle collision at Hwy 22X and Range Road 280 are also being managed by responding agencies.
At this time:
- Multiple grass fires are being suppressed along the rail corridor.
- CPKC rail traffic has been stopped in the affected area.
- Emergency resources remain active throughout the corridor.
- No evacuation orders have been issued at this time.
- Information regarding any structures at risk is still being assessed.
Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the Highway 22X corridor near Indus and surrounding areas to allow emergency crews to work safely and efficiently.
Crews will remain active in all areas throughout the evening with fire control, monitoring and working on hotspots.
Rocky View County will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
