Rocky View County has completed appointments to the newly established Langdon Municipal Policing Committee, with Council approving the final two public members during the July 21, 2026, Council meeting.
The Committee was created to meet the requirements of Alberta's Police Act, which requires municipalities receiving RCMP policing services through a Municipal Police Service Agreement (MPSA) to establish a policing committee. Rocky View County received provincial approval to establish a municipal policing committee dedicated specifically to the hamlet of Langdon.
The Langdon Municipal Policing Committee will play an important role in strengthening communication between the community, Council, and the RCMP while helping shape local policing priorities and community safety initiatives.
Council has appointed the following members to the Committee:
- Councillor Ball (Council representative)
- Jennifer Carson
- Jim Friesen
- Dwayne Austin
- Tanya Creamer
These appointments are conditional upon each appointee successfully completing an enhanced security screening. The screening includes a conflict of interest declaration and review, a criminal records check, and where required, verification of academic and professional credentials and a review of financial records.
The Committee's responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the administration of the Municipal Police Service Agreement.
- Representing the interests and concerns of Langdon residents and Council to the RCMP Officer in Charge.
- Developing annual policing priorities and strategies in consultation with the RCMP.
- Developing a community safety plan in collaboration with local partners.
- Assisting in the selection of the RCMP Officer in Charge.
- Reporting to the Province on the implementation of policing priorities and community safety initiatives.
Any recommendations made by the Committee will be brought forward to Council for consideration.
