Community spirit and family fun were on full display in Langdon this past weekend during the hamlet’s annual summer event, Langdon Days.
The three-day celebration kicked off Friday evening with Day 1 of the Slow-Pitch Tournament at Iron Horse Fields and bingo night at the Fieldhouse. Saturday brought a full day of activities, starting with a free pancake breakfast and the ever-popular parade through the community.
Reeve Sunny Samra was joined by Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas, Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge, and Bow River MP David Bexte. The dignitaries were among dozens of community floats and parade entries that greeted and waved to hundreds of spectators who lined the route.
“Langdon Days is a wonderful celebration of community spirit, and it was an honour to take part and see firsthand the pride residents have in their community,” said Reeve Samra. “Events like this do not happen without the dedication, planning, and hard work of many volunteers. On behalf of Rocky View County, I want to thank everyone who helps bring Langdon Days to life year after year and makes it such a memorable event for residents and visitors alike.”
Following the parade, residents enjoyed a barbecue hosted by members of Langdon Fire Services and an open house at Fire Station 111.
The Saturday festivities continued with the Children’s Festival at Langdon Park, which featured activities for families including bouncy castles, a dunk tank, mini golf, a mechanical bull, horse and carriage rides, and more.
There was also a vendor market featuring local businesses and organizations. Rocky View County team members from the Utilities department were on hand with an interactive and educational display about putting waste in the right place.
Saturday evening concluded with an outdoor movie at the Fieldhouse, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Over at Iron Horse Fields, slow-pitch players enjoyed a cabaret after a long day of tournament play in the summer heat.
Langdon Days wrapped up on Sunday with Day 3 of the Slow-Pitch Tournament and a Show & Shine at Horseshoe Crossing High School. Almost 150 vehicles spanning several decades were on display, along with many local vendors.
The car show also featured live music, a cornhole tournament, a Battle of the Tech engine-building contest with local high school students, and a kids’ Power Wheels race.
Langdon Days once again showcased the strong community spirit, volunteer dedication, and family-friendly fun that make the annual celebration a highlight of the summer season.
