Rocky View County, The City of Calgary, and TransAlta are inviting residents to help shape the management of Bearspaw Reservoir.
A critical regional waterbody on the Bow River, the Bearspaw Reservoir supplies drinking water to approximately 1.6 million people in Calgary and Rocky View County. It also feeds the Bearspaw Dam, which powers 10,000 homes in the surrounding area.
The Bearspaw Reservoir Management Plan will guide future decisions about how the reservoir is managed, used, and protected. It will support a balanced approach that considers source water protection, public safety, infrastructure and dam operations, environmental health, and potential low-risk recreational access or use.
Residents, community organizations, regional users, and interested parties are encouraged to complete the online survey at engage.rockyview.ca/bearspaw-reservoir. Feedback will be accepted until July 26.
A public information session will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the project and speak with the project team.
- Sunday, July 19, 2026
- 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Haskayne Legacy Park Pavilion (9000 149 Street NW, Calgary, AB)
Feedback will help Rocky View County, The City of Calgary, and TransAlta better understand how to balance source water protection with public safety, environmental health, and potential future recreational access.
Input collected during this phase will help inform the draft plan, a What We Heard Report, and recommendations to Council.
More information can be found on the Bearspaw Reservoir webpage.
