2025 County Organizational Meeting: New Council Sworn In - Reeve and Deputy Reeve Elected

Rocky View County’s new council was sworn in today by Assistant Chief Justice Eric Tolppanen. Council then conducted the first orders of business with more than 40 appointments to various County boards and committees.

The meeting began with the selection by Council of Reeve Sunny Samra, Division 6 and Deputy Reeve Samanntha Wright, Division 4. The Reeve serves as head of Council and chairs Council meetings. Both the Reeve and Deputy Reeve appointments are for one year.

“It is an honour to serve as Reeve on behalf of Rocky View County residents,” said Reeve Sunny Samra. “As Council begins its new term, we will continue to focus on service excellence, responsible growth, and collaboration across our communities. Rocky View County’s strength lies in its people and communities, and we look forward to continuing to build a vibrant, sustainable future together.”

County councillors received applications for board and committee membership in advance, and reviewed the merits of each applicant before voting on the appointments during Tuesday’s meeting. These appointments are from one to four years, and the list of appointees confirmed during the meeting includes:

Council also passed a Motion Rising asking for a report in early 2026 that will explore ways to improve how public members are appointed to boards and committees, with the goal of making the process more modern, fair, and effective.

Note that members at large may include residents who are appointed to represent a specific geographic area or community, or to represent a partnering agency in the board or committee.
