Don Kochan has been a resident of west Rocky View County for nearly 30 years and was first elected to Council in 2021. Before joining Council, he served on both the County’s Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and the Assessment Review Board. Councillor Kochan holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Alberta and has further enhanced his expertise through leadership certificates from the University of Alberta, Dalhousie University, and the Banff Centre. A life member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), he brings over 40 years of municipal government experience, including five years as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Canmore. Known for his calm, thoughtful, and analytical approach to complex issues, Councillor Kochan values collaboration with neighbouring municipalities as a vital strategy to support responsible growth in the County. Outside of Council, he has been an active volunteer with Scouts Canada and enjoys golfing, horseback riding, camping, and hiking with his family.
