Upgrades
Range Road 283 & Range Road 284 (Rainbow Road)
Overview
Rocky View County, in partnership with the Province of Alberta, is upgrading the intersections at Glenmore Trail and Range Roads 283 and 284 (Rainbow Road).
These improvements respond to increasing traffic volumes, ongoing development in the area, and the need to enhance safety and traffic flow along this important corridor.
Project Update – September 2026
Rocky View County, in partnership with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC), continues to advance improvements to the intersections of Glenmore Trail (Highway 560) at Range Roads 283 and 284. The projects are intended to improve safety, traffic operations and capacity while supporting anticipated growth and development in the area.
Engineering and technical work for both intersections is well advanced. Preliminary engineering, traffic analysis, geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments and contractor prequalification have been completed. Based on the traffic analysis and preliminary engineering, signalized intersection improvements have been identified as the preferred design approach for both locations.
The project team is currently focused on completing the remaining land acquisition requirements and coordinating necessary utility relocations associated with the proposed intersection improvements. Additional road right-of-way is required at both locations, and completion of the land acquisition process is necessary to establish the final construction limits and allow affected utility providers to finalize their relocation designs and schedules. The preliminary engineering work identified both land acquisition and utility coordination as required components of advancing the projects.
These activities must be sufficiently advanced before the projects can proceed to tender and construction. As a result, the previously anticipated Fall 2026 completion date is no longer achievable. An updated construction schedule will be provided once the remaining land acquisition, utility coordination and other pre-construction requirements have progressed sufficiently to confirm the projects are ready to proceed.
Rocky View County will continue working with TEC, affected landowners and utility providers to advance the projects and position them for construction as efficiently as possible.
Project Improvements
The project includes:
- Traffic signal installation at both intersections
- Road widening and turning lanes
- Improved lighting and visibility
- Upgrades to pavement and drainage
Signalized intersections were selected based on updated traffic analysis and long-term growth projections.

What to Expect
During construction, residents can expect temporary traffic delays and lane closures. Traffic management will be in place to maintain safe travel through the area.
