Airport Trail & Stoney Trail Interchange - Stage 2

Capital Project type
Transportation

Overview

To support the future growth and development of the OMNI Area Structure Plan (ASP), a new access connection to the Northeast Calgary Ring Road (Stoney Trail) is required at the existing half interchange at Airport Trail (Stage 1).

Stage 2 of the interchange will be a critical part of Rocky View County’s regional transportation network and long-term economic development strategy. The planned upgrade will provide full directional access, enhancing regional connectivity.

Construction of Stage 2 is funded by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors and Genesis Land Development Corp.

Project Timeline

  • Construction expected to start August 5, 2025 and completed October 2026.
  • Bridge girder erection: Scheduled for January 19-24, 2026, between 7:00pm to 5:30am. A full closure of the bridge over 96 Avenue (Airport Trail) will be in effect, with a signed detour in place. Partial lane closures on both northbound and southbound Stoney Trail will also be in effect during erection activities.
