2025 Seasonal Weed Management Program
Wednesday, May 21, 2025
As part of the County's annual weed control program, crews will be spraying invasive weeds in Division 5 this year. Roadsides in each division are treated on a three-year rotation, with spot treatments occurring in other areas as needed. Weed spraying is one component of an Integrated Pest Management Plan designed to protect native plants, croplands, and wildlife habitats from being overtaken by invasive species.
Early detection and rapid response remain the most effective strategies for managing invasive weeds. Along with annual spraying, the County employs a team of seasonal weed inspectors and uses modern tracking technology to monitor infestations and support a long-term weed control strategy.
The County targets prohibited noxious and noxious weeds as defined under the Alberta Weed Control Act. All herbicide applications are carried out by certified applicators and follow the handling, safety, and environmental standards set by Alberta Environment and the Industrial Vegetation Management Association of Alberta.
