Council Decisions: May 26, 2026

Here is a summary of the decisions of Rocky View County Council at the May 26, 2026 Council Meeting. This is a general overview of decisions. General Business

Council voted to direct the Reeve and Acting Chief Administrative Officer to sign the renewed Memorandum of Agreement with the Town of Strathmore for an additional four years to continue the County’s commitment to funding a watch clerk position for the Strathmore RCMP detachment.

Council voted to support the Town of Strathmore’s letter to the Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services to expand diagnostic imaging services at the Strathmore Hospital by implementing CT scanning at this facility to improve access to diagnostic services in the area and to align with the provincial government’s emphasis on preventive healthcare and improved access to imaging services.

Planning and Development

Division 7 – File: PL20260012 (03223837), Bylaw C-8744-2026, Direct Control Amendment Item: To assess a site-specific amendment to Direct Control Bylaw C-6136-2005 affecting the subject lands to allow a proposed oversized accessory building measuring 111.5 sq. m (1200.0 sq. ft.) in area, and 6.1 m (20.0 ft.) in height, exceeding the allowable size of 90.0 sq. m. (969.0 sq. ft.), and height of 5.5 m (18.0 ft). This proposed amendment represents a 23.84% variance to the building area, and an 11.11% variance to the building height. Considered under the Langdon Area Structure Plan, Langdon East Conceptual Scheme, and Direct Control Bylaw C-6136-2005. Approved.

Division 5 – File: PL20250030 (06513017), Bylaw C-8732-2026, Redesignation Item: To assess redesignation of the subject lands from Business, Recreation District to Business, Regional Campus District in order to facilitate the development of outdoor storage on ± 3.44 hectares (8.5 acres) of land within the Balzac West Area Structure Plan. Considered under the Balzac West Area Structure Plan. Approved.

Division 4 – File: PL20220072 (06702006), Subdivision Item: To assess a proposed subdivision of the subject lands to create a ± 4.33 hectare (± 10.69 acre) parcel (Lot 1) with a ± 2.96 hectare (± 7.31 acre) remainder (Lot 2). The application was presented at the Council meeting on April 28, 2026 and the resulting motions have been fulfilled. Approved with conditions.

Closed Session

Council moved into a closed session to consider the confidential item “Chief Administrative Officer Update” (RVC2026-30) under Section 29 of the Access to Information Act (ATIA). Council moved back into the public session with no follow up action.
