The Classroom Agriculture Program (CAP) is a well-known and highly respected education program, reaching over 10,000 grade 4 and 5 students across Alberta each year. Since its inception in 1985, CAP has connected with more than 600,000 young Albertans.
CAP gives students a broader understanding of the food they eat and where it comes from, helping them appreciate the value and importance of agriculture in Alberta. It highlights the many opportunities within the agriculture sector and introduces the people, producers, and industries that make it thrive.
Volunteers are the heart of CAP. They bring the program to life through storytelling, engaging props, and fun, hands-on activities, delivered between March and June. Volunteers don’t need to be farmers; anyone with an interest in agriculture and a willingness to share their knowledge can participate. Presenters help students make connections between everyday life and agriculture, showing how food, clothing, movies, and even the tires on their cars all link back to the agri-food industry.
Rocky View County Agriculture and Environmental staff have proudly volunteered with CAP for over 20 years. If you, or someone you know, would like to make a difference in the lives of Alberta’s youth by volunteering, visit Classroom Agriculture Program to learn more and sign up.
Your story, experience, and enthusiasm can open children’s eyes to the world of agriculture and inspire the next generation of informed consumers and future industry leaders.
