History

The hamlet of Dalemead came into existence with the construction of the CP Rail line from Shepard to Stobbard in 1913, until the train service was discontinued in 1955. The hamlet was initially named Strathmead, but confusion with the nearby town of Strathmore prompted a name change to Dalemead.

Miss Emma Walker opened the first grocery store in 1915 which also served as the post office and registar office for births and deaths. The first elevator was built in 1916.

Parks & Outdoor Recreation

  • The McKinnon Flats picnic site is located south of Dalemead on the Bow River and RGE RD 274. It is common to see deer, and a variety of song and water birds in the area. This is a public access point to the Bow River and a popular area for trout fishing.
  • The nearby hamlet of Langdon has almost 100 acres of parks and open spaces.
