Election Signs
Election signs are regulated by Rocky View County’s Election Sign Bylaw. Candidates may place election signs on public or private property within Rocky View County so long as the election signs comply with the requirements of the Election Sign Bylaw.
- As of the close of Candidate Nominations on Nomination Day, 12 noon, September 22, 2025: Election signs may be placed on road rights-of-way (see definition below).
- As of January 1, 2025: lection signs may be placed on private property.
- Election signs must be removed 72 hours after the close of voting stations on Election Day, Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Candidates are solely responsible for ensuring that their election signs meet the requirements of the Election Sign Bylaw. Election signs that do not comply with the Election Sign Bylaw will be impounded by Rocky View County for up to 30 days. If candidates do not retrieve their impounded signs, Rocky View County may dispose of them.
Definition of Road Right-of-Way
Election signs may only be placed on private property or on a road right-of-way. Rocky View County’s Election Sign Bylaw defines a road right-of-way as follows:
“Road Right of Way” means land that is under the direction, control, and management of Rocky View County and is:
- Shown as a road on a plan of survey that has been filed or registered in a land titles office, or
- Used as a public road and includes a bridge forming part of the public road, together with any structure incidental to the public road or road allowances including, but not limited to, boulevards, ditches, swales, fences, retaining walls, sidewalks, pathways, trails, street lights, traffic control devices, and traffic control signals, and which may or may not contain a developed road.
Election Sign Restrictions
Regardless of whether an election sign complies with the general requirements of the Election Sign Bylaw, all election signs are prohibited from the following:
- Being placed anywhere at a voting station, or anywhere on the parcel of land on which a voting station is located
- Being placed on any property owned or occupied by Rocky View County, including the County Hall, fire stations, transfer sites, cemeteries, etc.
- Using the Rocky View County logo or band in any capacity
- Being placed within a public park, municipal reserve, environmental reserve, school reserve, or public utility lot
- Being placed directly on any traffic control device, utility infrastructure, mailbox, or other fixtures within a road right-of-way
- Being placed in such a way that it obstructs or impedes emergency routes, or in such a way that it obscures or distracts from traffic control devices
