Here Come the Weed Inspectors

Every year, Rocky View County hires seasonal staff to help in the battle against invasive weed species.

Weed inspectors will be throughout the County this summer inspecting both private and public property to help stop the spread of regulated weeds listed as noxious and prohibited noxious on the Weed Control Act of Alberta. Regulated weeds cause economic, ecological, or environmental threats to the land. Prohibited noxious weeds such as Nodding Thistle or Bighead Knapweed must be destroyed in its entirety.  Noxious weeds such as Canada Thistle, Black Henbane and Perennial Sow-Thistle are encouraged to be controlled to prevent establishment to protect our native species.

It is the landowner’s responsibility to manage and control the spread of noxious and prohibited species. Rocky View County Agricultural & Environmental Services has an annual weed control program which can be viewed here
