Here Comes the Weeds

Summer is here! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the grass is growing. But with the grass, comes the weeds. Every year, Rocky View County hires seasonal weed inspectors who provide inspections on both private and public property to help stop the spread of invasive weed species.
Weed inspectors are throughout the County looking for noxious and prohibited noxious weeds which are provincially regulated by the Weed Control Act of Alberta. Prohibited noxious and noxious weeds cause economic, ecological, or environmental threats to the land. Prohibited noxious weeds such as Nodding thistle or Bighead knapweed must be destroyed in its entirety. Noxious weeds such as Canada thistle, Black henbane and Perennial sow-thistle are encouraged to be controlled to prevent establishment to protect our native species.
It is the landowner’s responsibility to manage and control the spread of noxious and prohibited species.

Also available is our Report-a-Problem Form, which can be accessed here. We encourage you to report any weed infestations you see on municipal or private property. Our main objective is to help prevent or control the spread of invasive weed species from spreading further throughout the county.
