Each November, Rocky View County joins communities across Canada in honouring the men and women who served our country, ensuring their names, stories, and sacrifices are never forgotten.

On Wednesday, November 5, students, Council representatives, County staff, and community members gathered at the Garden of Peace Cemetery for the annual No Stone Left Alone Ceremony, a moving tribute that connects generations through remembrance. Together, students from Bishop Carroll High School and Third Academy placed poppies and flags on the headstones of veterans, each gesture symbolizing gratitude and respect.

Reeve Sunny Samra spoke about the importance of remembrance as both a tradition and a responsibility. “I can think of no greater obligation for any citizen than our duty to honour the sacrifices of those who have served to protect our peace and freedom,” he said. “Remembrance Day is a treasured tradition throughout our country, and the No Stone Left Alone initiative enriches the meaning of November eleventh, serving as an inspiration not only for our youth, but for all of us. Our job as parents, educators, mentors, students, and community leaders is to make sure the stories of these heroes, and everyday men and women, are remembered and passed on.”

The Reeve extended thanks to the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation, event organizers, and the students who will carry the legacy of remembrance into the future.

The No Stone Left Alone initiative, founded in Edmonton, brings students across Canada together each November to place poppies on the headstones of veterans. The program enriches the meaning of Remembrance Day, offering youth a personal and powerful connection to Canada’s history of service and sacrifice.
