Urgent Wastewater Advisory for Bragg Creek Residents
Thursday, July 24, 2025
The Bragg Creek wastewater system is experiencing higher than normal flows, putting it at risk of overload and potential backups. We need your help to reduce pressure on the system immediately.
Residents are asked to limit water use as much as possible. Please delay doing laundry, minimize toilet flushing, dishwasher use, and taking long showers. If you have a sump pump, make sure it is not discharging into the sanitary sewer system.
Please note drinking water is not affected. Rocky View County is working to investigate the situation. Updates will be available at rockyview.ca. If you have questions, please contact Utility Services at 403-230-1401. Thank you for helping protect our homes and local infrastructure.
Help Keep Our Wastewater System Flowing Properly
We’ve seen unusually high flows in some areas of the County’s sewer system, and one possible cause is sump pumps that are incorrectly connected. If your home has a sump pump, it should be discharged outside, never into the sanitary sewer system.
Why does this matter? Sump pumps are meant to move groundwater away from your home’s foundation, not into the wastewater system. When they’re hooked into the sewer line, it can overwhelm the system, cause backups, and increase maintenance costs.
What can I do? Make sure your sump pump drains outside, well away from your home. If you're unsure or think it may be connected to your sewer line, a licensed plumber can help fix it.
