Rocky View County Councillors Participate at the Rural Municipalities Fall Convention

Several Rocky View County Councillors attended the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) 2024 Fall Convention in Edmonton from November 4-7.  The convention saw high attendance, reflecting its value to municipalities across Alberta. This biannual event provides an opportunity to engage with provincial ministers, network with municipal leaders, and advocate for issues affecting rural communities.

Reeve Kissel, Deputy Reeve Kochan, Councillor Samra, Councillor Wright, Councillor Hanson and Councillor Boehlke participated in meetings with provincial ministers, including Minister McIver, attended educational sessions, and voted on 22 resolutions. These resolutions addressed critical topics such as water license security, grizzly bear management, wildfire safety, and increased funding for family and community services. Read more about the endorsed resolutions here.

At the convention, RMA elected Kara Westerlund, a Councillor from Brazeau County, as its new and first female president, and John Burrows from Woodland County as vice-president. Rocky View County extends its gratitude to outgoing RMA president Paul McLauchlin, Reeve for Ponoka County, for his steadfast advocacy on behalf of rural Albertans.

Rocky View County values this opportunity to collaborate with rural colleagues on shared challenges and opportunities. The RMA continues to be an effective advocate for rural Albertans at the provincial and federal levels, while also fostering connections and shared learning across the province.
