Rocky View County Council has appointed Byron Riemann as Acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

On August 1, 2023, Rocky View County Council appointed Byron Riemann as Acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

The appointment was prompted by Council’s decision to immediately provide notice to Dorian Wandzura that they intend to terminate his CAO appointment and employment with Rocky View County. Council wishes to move onto an individual that has a different style of leadership to support Council, residents, and the diversity of Rocky View County.

“This decision enables us to take the necessary time to thoughtfully chart our next recruitment for a permanent CAO while ensuring continuity under Mr. Riemann's capable management.” says Reeve Crystal Kissel.

Mr. Riemann currently serves as the municipality’s Executive Director of Operations, and adds, “I extend my gratitude to Mr. Wandzura for his past contributions and am ready to assist Council in this capacity.”

Under the Municipal Government Act, all Alberta municipalities must have a Chief Administrative Officer, who serves as a council’s sole employee and head of administration. A council gives its direction to municipal staff through the CAO.
