Starting May 1st, Organics being accepted at the Madden and Keoma Chuck Wagons

Rocky View County is expanding the waste & recycling program at two of the County Chuck Wagons – waste and recycling collection centres.  Starting May 1st, the Madden and Keoma Chuck Wagons will begin collecting organic materials. All natural and organic material including food waste, leaves, grass clippings, house and garden plants is accepted. All materials must go into the bin either loose, in a paper bag or in a certified organic bag that has one of the following symbols:

A few examples of accepted organic food waste material include:

  • Fruits, vegetables, grains, seafood, dairy products, meat and bones
  • Food scraps from meal preparation, plate scrapings and cleaning out the fridge
  • Coffee filters, grounds and tea bags
  • Cooking grease, cooking oils and condiments
  • Chopsticks, popsicle sticks, paper straws and toothpicks
  • Soiled pizza boxes and greasy paper bags (fast food)
  • Paper towels and used facial tissues
  • Paper plates and napkins
  • Pet food including bird seed, pet fur or feathers and waste (kitty litter)

We are excited about the addition of Madden and Keoma to the organics program which already includes the Balzac, Bearspaw and Elbow Valley Chuck Wagons.  All Rocky View County residents are encouraged to use the organic waste programs if they don’t have somewhere to compost.  For more information, please visit the Rocky View County website Garbage & Recycling | Rocky View County  Organics can be dropped off at locations during regular Chuck Wagon hours.
