Social Needs Assessment Extended Deadline

Rocky View County is completing a Family and Community Social Needs Assessment to better understand the social needs of its residents, including youth. The information collected will be used in the County’s decision making about Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) funding aimed at enhancing the lives of everyone in the community.

There are two surveys being conducted concurrently:

It is important to capture input through separate surveys, as youth and adults have different perceptions, viewpoints and see social issues from a different lens when evaluating their own unique needs and priorities. Data captured by the youth survey will assist to see what gaps are identified in the County for services, programs and support that are important from a youth perspective as opposed to an adult perspective.

Deadline to submit a survey response has been extended to Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

The FCSS program is supported both provincially and through the local municipality. FCSS is an 80/20 funding partnership between the Province of Alberta and local Municipalities or Metis settlements, which Rocky View County has been a member of this larger provincial program since the year 2000 to provide preventative social programs and supports to Rocky View County residents. The County’s FCSS program provides this funding to non-profit organizations to offer preventative social services to support the well-being of our residents. Currently, examples of programs funded through FCSS that directly support County residents are child and youth programs, family life enrichment programs, senior’s programs, information and referral programs, in addition to other social support programs.

As it had been over a decade since there had been a County wide Social Needs Assessment completed, it was important to complete an updated assessment to ensure that the social needs of our residents are still being addressed in addition to being utilized as one of the tools in the decision-making process for FCSS funding allocations.

A key component of this Social Needs Assessment is the collection of input from residents and youth. This past summer, input was initially collected through resident and youth surveys. The insights shared by those who completed these surveys have been tremendously valuable. However, to expand and further amplify the voice of residents and youth within the County, additional input is needed.

As a result, in January 2023, all households across the County were mailed a postcard that contains information about how to complete the resident and youth surveys. If you did not have a chance to complete the resident or youth survey this past summer, please take a moment to do so by using the information on the postcard or through the links listed above.

Both surveys will remain open until January 31, 2023. Your input is valuable, and we thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

Please contact Rocky View County at fcss@rockyview.ca if you are looking for further information or have any questions.

The assessment is being conducted through Moorhouse & Associates.
