Rocky View County Recognizes International Day of Older Persons

Rocky View County has proclaimed Thursday, October 1, 2020 as International Day of Older Persons, presenting the opportunity to build greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of seniors.

In December 1990, the United Nations adopted October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons, which was first observed the following October.

It is currently estimated that the number of people aged 60 years and older outnumber children younger than five years worldwide. It is predicted that by 2050, the number of people over the age of 60 will have risen to 2 billion. More information is available on the United Nations website.

We’re fortunate to have older people around us, whether they’re family, friends, or just general acquaintances. Older people are fonts of wisdom, experience, and storytelling, and offer inspiration to all to continue striving. Seniors can be looked to for guidance whenever and wherever possible.
