Calgary Police Training Exercise Upsets Bragg Creek

Rocky View County is deeply concerned over upset calls from Bragg Creek residents due to a lack of communication over a City of Calgary Police Services training exercise that left parts of the community unnerved from the sounds of explosive devices and firearms on Thursday.

“Sending Calgary Police Services into Rocky View County’s jurisdiction and setting off controlled explosions without properly communicating it, and during these unsettling times is insensitive,” says Reeve Greg Boehlke.

Residents of the hamlet began reaching out to members of Council with concerns and questions about detonation sounds and looking to the County to explain. Since then, the landowner has connected with County representatives and apologized for upsetting anyone.

Any training exercise events conducted within Rocky View County must have ample advanced notification, permits or permission to avoid misunderstandings and alarming the public.
