Rocky View Recognizes Rail Safety Week: September 23-29
Monday, September 23, 2019
Rocky View County has proclaimed September 23-29, 2019 as Rail Safety Week to raise awareness about reducing avoidable accidents and injuries at rail crossing, and ensuring everyone's safety on and around railroad infrastructure.
Incidents involving people and trains continue to occur far too frequently and in most cases, the results are tragic. Almost all of those incidents are preventable. Everyone is encouraged to take a moment to think about what they can do to improve rail safety in their community.
CN Rail is encouraging the public to take the Rail Safety Pledge online. The Rail Safety Pledge asks people to share rail safety tips in their community, talk about rail safety at their local schools, or report unsafe behaviour around trains or railway property. Visit www.mysafetypledge.com to learn more.
All railway property, including tracks and surrounding rights-of-way are private. Unauthorized access by the public is illegal and hazardous. This includes walking on or around tracks, bridges, rights-of-way or rail yards.
Rail Safety Week is also supported by Operation Lifesaver, a public/private partnership working with the rail industry, governments, police services, the media, and other agencies and the public to raise rail safety awareness.
