Here is a brief summary of the decisions of Rocky View County Council at the January 22, 2019 Council Meeting. This is a general overview of decisions only. Details of the agenda items can be found in the meeting’s agenda, and details on the specifics of the decisions can be found in the minutes of this meeting, both on the Council Minutes & Archives page. Details are also available by contacting the County’s Municipal Clerk’s Office.

General Business

  • Council approved a Terms of Reference for the direction and scope of amendments to the County Plan (Rocky View County’s master planning document). Council instructed administration to take a Targeted Review approach followed by a Comprehensive Review, where the bulk of the plan remains in place, but specific items are investigated further. A Comprehensive Review would then be undertaken in alignment with the Growth Plan currently underway with the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board. Administration will now develop a budget and work plan to support this direction, for Council’s approval.
  • Council voted to support the City of Calgary’s application for an Alberta Communities Partnership grant to fund a joint regional recreation study for the cities of Calgary and Chestermere and Rocky View County. If the grant application is successful, the study will examine recreational usage, amenities, and cost-sharing mechanisms for three municipalities.
  • Council voted to approve a $15,517 grant to the Langdon Community Association to assist with the Adopt-a-Planter program and to help cover operational expenses for Langdon Park. The funding is from the Langdon Recreation Special Tax Levy.
  • Council voted to advise Canada Post of the desire for all Rocky View County residents and businesses to receive a County municipal mailing address and postal code, as opposed to assigning properties to addresses and postal codes in other neighbouring municipalities. Currently, only properties in Hamlets are consistently assigned a County-based address by Canada Post.
  • Council set the terms for the 2019 sale of properties for tax recovery. This is an annual requirement under the Alberta Municipal Government Act, and relates to the sale of properties that have been in tax arrears for three years.
