Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan Appealed

The City of Calgary and the Town of Cochrane have filed notices of appeal with the Alberta Municipal Government Board over the Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan (ASP), which was approved by Rocky View County Council on July 25, 2017.

County Council passed the Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan with the full understanding that the two municipalities might appeal the plan, but welcome the move as a way to require Calgary and Cochrane to formally detail their specific concerns. That allows Rocky View County to specifically address those concerns though the Municipal Government Board’s process.

This process is similar to the 2016 appeal of the County’s Conrich Area Structure Plan. In that case, the city of Chestermere lost their appeal outright, and the County successfully reached a mutually beneficial agreement with Calgary over transportation concerns.

The County has acted in good faith throughout the process of developing the Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan, and will continue to do so as it enters mediation with the two neighbouring municipalities.
