County Seeks Public Input on Garden of Peace Cemetery Expansion
Monday, October 27, 2025
Rocky View County is inviting residents to have their say on the future of local cemetery services as it moves into the next phase of updating its Cemetery Master Plan.
The County is currently in Phase 2 of public engagement, focusing on refining the draft expansion concept for the Garden of Peace Cemetery. Residents will have two opportunities to participate — at an Open House on November 5, 2025, and through a second online survey running from October 24 to November 26, 2025.
The Cemetery Master Plan is a long-range document that guides the development, maintenance, and use of cemetery lands in Rocky View County. The existing plan was created in 2009, and with many burial areas nearing capacity, an update is needed to ensure there is sufficient space for future community needs.
Phase 1 engagement, held earlier this year, gathered resident input about burial preferences, cultural practices, and expectations for future services. This feedback directly informed the draft expansion concept for the Garden of Peace Cemetery, which the County is now sharing for public review.
A Thoughtful Expansion
The Garden of Peace Cemetery currently spans about 70 acres, with roughly half already developed. As many existing sections are now at or near capacity, the proposed expansion will make use of adjacent County-owned land to ensure space for future generations and accommodate diverse cultural and religious needs.
The updated plan will also include revised financial projections and long-term maintenance strategies, ensuring the County continues to provide respectful, sustainable cemetery services for years to come.
Engagement Opportunities
Residents are encouraged to review the draft concept and provide feedback in one of two ways:
-
In Person: Attend the Open House on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Garden of Peace Chapel (243208 Garden Rd, T1X 1G2).
-
Online: Complete the second engagement survey between October 24 and November 26, 2025, at engage.rockyview.ca.
Feedback gathered during this phase will help shape the final design concept and the updated Cemetery Master Plan, which will be presented to the Governance Committee in mid-December 2025 and to Council in January 2026.
