Proclaiming Rail Safety Week: A Reminder to Stay Alert Near Railways

Rocky View County Council has officially proclaimed September 15 to 21, 2025, as Rail Safety Week.

Each year, Rail Safety Week is recognized across Canada to raise awareness about the importance of staying safe near railways and to reduce avoidable accidents, injuries, and fatalities. In 2024, there were 261 railway crossing and trespassing incidents across the country, resulting in 68 deaths and 58 serious injuries — tragedies that education and awareness can help prevent.

Through the efforts of Operation Lifesaver, CN, and partners across the country, Rail Safety Week reminds us that railways are private property, crossings must always be approached with caution, and safety laws must be followed. By looking, listening, and staying alert, we can all help ensure the safety of our families, friends, and communities.
