Bragg Creek Wastewater Update #2 – Inspections Underway as Conditions Improve
Monday, July 28, 2025
Thank you, Bragg Creek residents, for your continued patience and support as we manage the high-flow conditions currently impacting the community’s wastewater system.
Positive Signs of Progress
We are beginning to see encouraging signs:
-
Your water conservation efforts are helping — thank you!
-
Inflow volumes to the wastewater treatment plant have decreased slightly, though they remain well above system capacity.
-
Crews continue to haul excess wastewater and utilize system storage to help manage flow volumes.
Upcoming Site Inspections – July 29 & 30
As part of our investigation into the source of excess water entering the system, Rocky View County staff will be conducting site visits and inspections of E1 lift stations throughout Bragg Creek, on the following dates:
-
Tuesday, July 29 - 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
-
Wednesday, July 30 - 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Marked County vehicles and staff with official identification will be present throughout the community. Staff will knock on doors before entering yards and will not enter homes. These inspections are critical in helping identify whether groundwater is entering the wastewater system.
We sincerely appreciate your ongoing patience, understanding, and the proactive actions many of you are taking to reduce strain on the system. Your efforts are making a meaningful impact.
Updates will continue to be posted here. If you have any questions, please contact Utility Services at 403-230-1401.
Urgent Wastewater Advisory for Bragg Creek Residents
July 24 2025
he Bragg Creek wastewater system is experiencing higher than normal flows, putting it at risk of overload and potential backups. We need your help to reduce pressure on the system immediately.
Residents are asked to limit water use as much as possible. Please delay doing laundry, minimize toilet flushing, dishwasher use, and taking long showers. If you have a sump pump, make sure it is not discharging into the sanitary sewer system.
Please note drinking water is not affected. Rocky View County is working to investigate the situation. Updates will be available at rockyview.ca. If you have questions, please contact Utility Services at 403-230-1401. Thank you for helping protect our homes and local infrastructure.
Help Keep Our Wastewater System Flowing Properly
We’ve seen unusually high flows in some areas of the County’s sewer system, and one possible cause is sump pumps that are incorrectly connected. If your home has a sump pump, it should be discharged outside, never into the sanitary sewer system.
Why does this matter? Sump pumps are meant to move groundwater away from your home’s foundation, not into the wastewater system. When they’re hooked into the sewer line, it can overwhelm the system, cause backups, and increase maintenance costs.
What can I do? Make sure your sump pump drains outside, well away from your home. If you're unsure or think it may be connected to your sewer line, a licensed plumber can help fix it.
