Rocky View County Announces Intent to Withdraw From CMRB but Remains Committed to Regional Collaboration

Rocky View County has announced its intention to withdraw from the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) but remains open to discussions with Board partners to understand the new vision of CMRB and how the County could effectively participate.

The County values strong relationships with its neighbours and has consistently demonstrated commitment to regional collaboration through participation in multiple projects including the Prairie Economic Gateway Initiative, Regional Economic Development, and partnerships to build regional infrastructure.

The County faces a unique challenge in the region as it must balance the diverse needs of residents and businesses in a busy region while striving to maintain agricultural viability and the rural lifestyle that residents value. However, the County faces challenges with the Regional Growth Plan that make it difficult to deliver on this mandate.

Reeve Crystal Kissel stated, “This decision does not impact our continued commitment to collaborating with our partners, both within and beyond the CMRB. Working together on regionally significant projects is the best way to ensure all residents of the region continue to enjoy choice and a high quality of life. We believe this move will allow us to focus more effectively on local priorities while maintaining collaborative relationships with neighboring municipalities.”

Despite the potential withdrawal, Rocky View County remains committed to fostering regional partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for all communities involved.
