Monday, November 4, 2024
Do you live in an area of forest and bush? Talk to your neighbours and apply to have a property clean up event; show that you are all working together to remove fuel sources and FireSmart your homes and property.
FireSmart is a very important initiative for Rocky View County. The county has numerous high fire risk areas from Bragg Creek, Elbow Valley, Springbank, Bearspaw, to Bottrel!
Communities can plan to do a FireSmart Preparedness Day anytime from May 3, 2025 to October 31st, 2025.
Grant funding applications open on November 1, 2024 with a January 31, 2025 deadline.
More information can be found here.
Groups can apply for a $500 award to fund their FireSmart Preparedness Day events, which could be a community gathering, a BBQ, breakfast, etc. Held before, during or after you and your neighbours do your own FireSmarting!
FireSmart™ Canada, in collaboration with the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR), Co-operators and the Provincial and Territorial wildfire agencies support these annual events.
In 2024, FireSmart Canada awarded more recipients than ever before with 378 neighbourhoods, in 10 provinces and two territories, compared to 230 neighbourhoods in 2023 and 162 neighbourhoods in 2022.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day events help raise awareness of wildland fires and bring residents of all ages together to work on projects to prepare their homes, neighbourhoods and communities.
