Rocky View County Awards $46,000 in Community Grants

Rocky View County has awarded eleven community grants totaling $46,000 as part of the Community Benefits Initiatives Grant program.

The grants support programs and projects in the categories of heritage awareness, volunteer development, culture and events, community beautification, and cultivating communities. Rocky View County contributes up to $50,000 for these initiatives each year. The 2019 recipients include:

  • Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation: Essential dietary, medical supplies and services for injured and orphaned wildlife. $5,000
  • Bragg Creek Artisans Society: Monthly meetings and group programs; day long workshops throughout the year; and education opportunities to bring together residents with shared interests and skills. $5,000
  • Cochrane Society for Housing Options (CSHO): Operating expenses to aid in maintaining sustainability of the rental program at the HomeStead building in Cochrane. $5,000
  • Kidsport Calgary & Area: Sport registration fee assistance to low income families in Rocky View County. $2,500
  • Langdon Citizens on Patrol Society: Operational expenses, purchase of safety equipment, communications, development and distribution of educational materials, training, and identification of safety challenges. $5,000
  • Springbank Community Association: Community programming, improve community outreach, and hire help to mitigate the risks of volunteer burn-out and complement the volunteers’ skillsets with expertise. $5,000
  • Cochrane Public Library: Costs associated with Medieval Celebration Day performers and entertainers, and a cash prize for the Youth writing contest. $1,000
  • Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation: Creation of a more interactive website, including an ecommerce portal that will help with long-term sustainability. $5,000
  • Pioneer Acres Plowmen & Threshermen’s Club of Alberta: Expenses for the August annual show, including the purchase of hay, corral panel rental, and advertising. $2,500
  • Cochrane and Area Humane Society: The purchase of volunteer t-shirts, appreciation gifts, an appreciation tea, a cellular I-Pad, and materials to make volunteers' jobs easier. $5,000
  • Airdrie 2020 Alberta Winter Games Society: Increase the arts and cultural component of the 2020 winter games at the Cross Country Ski site, enhance on-site pageantry, and ensure a collaborated marketing approach to the new development, and target market Rocky View County residents to engage with the games. $5,000
