We are pleased to announce that the response to the grassfire near Twp Rd. 280 and Range Rd. 23 in Rocky View County has now concluded. This will be our final public update regarding this incident, and we are grateful to report that there were no significant losses.
For residents who had to evacuate, we recognize the urgency of getting back to your homes. Rest assured, we are actively working on a re-entry plan and will share detailed instructions by 7:00pm. Additionally, we expect power will be restored by 7:00pm and aim to reopen Symons Valley Road by 6:00pm. Your safety and swift return to normalcy are our top priorities.

In response to dry conditions that contributed to the fire's rapid spread, a Fire Advisory has been declared in Rocky View County. This means all permit burning and fireworks use are temporarily halted. There are a few exceptions to this advisory, particularly for essential and controlled activities, ensuring public safety remains our top priority. Update #3 – 2:30pm
Good news for Rocky View County residents! The grassfire near Twp Rd. 280 and Range Rd. 23 is now under control. A downed power line is believed to be the initial cause, and strong winds, reaching up to 70 km/hr, have contributed to the fire's spread over approximately 350 acres.
Currently, there's no need for further evacuations. However, please note that power outages will continue until 19:30 hours from Twp Rd. 280, extending north for 1 mile along Simon Valley Road, to allow for repairs.
Our emergency teams are actively managing hot spots and reinforcing the fire's perimeter to protect nearby structures and prevent the fire from spreading. Utility services are also closely working with fire crews to tackle any issues caused by the fire. In addition, municipal enforcement officers are securing the area to ensure the safety of the public and the crews engaged in fire suppression efforts.
We have a strong response force on the scene, including fire crews from seven Rocky View County Stations, with additional support from Town of Crossfield, Mountain View County, City of Airdrie, and the Municipal District of Big Horn.
