Most Rocky View County residents take pride in the appearance of their property. However, comments and concerns are sometimes received about unsightly properties.
The Nuisance and Unsightly Property Bylaw (PDF) was created to help keep the county clean, safe and attractive.
What the Bylaw Covers
The Unsightly Premises Bylaw applies to properties that do not meet the general condition and state of tidiness of the community.
The bylaw may apply to properties with excessive:
- garbage and litter
- unused vehicles or vehicle parts
- unused equipment, machinery, or appliances
- lack of maintenance or repair
Enforcement
The bylaw will be enforced when a complaint is made to the County's Enforcement Services Department.
If a property is found to be below the community standards as set out in the bylaw, the land owner will be contacted and required to improve the appearance of the property within a reasonable amount of time.
Penalties
Property owners who fail or refuse to improve an unsightly property may be subject to a fine of $500 for first offences. Second offences within a one-year period may carry a fine of $1000.
